An Author’s Note

Hi! My name is Cornelia of Leal. I am a girl, who wishes to be a boy. So what I do is I have two sides of me. If you don’t get let me explain. Another piece of Art from Bhavya:

I don’t like being a girl sometimes. I don’t like spinning, being a lady. I like adventures, playing in the rain, playing with friends and telling stories.

So what I do is disguise myself as a boy. I change my name to Liam of Frankstrut. And my job as Liam is a messenger in Lord Staken’s manor, 5 minutes away where I live.

But as Cornelia I am the goat girl.
Now that you know about the two of me, here is about my family:
I am a daughter of knight called Lord Leal and Lady Lia. But unfortunately they died when I was young. So I live with my kind, fun and generous uncle Eragon.He knows about my 2 sides and doesn’t mind as long as I hurt myself. That is all well.

I have a lot of friends.

People say I am adventurous, kind, generous, trustworthy, caring and very witty.

I also like writing and I will give this to my uncle and future kids so my adventures will be alive.

SEPTEMBER

September 1st

Today is my first day writing in you! Today as usually I had to herd the goats to the meadows. Anyhow I went up to the meadow early morn and watched the sunrise. It was beautiful. The sun glowered on the town and Lord Staken’s manor… It shined as the sun beamed and directed the light in different directions.

Sorry I couldn’t write earlier, the goats were craving attention. So I had to play. Uncle Eragon rung the bell so I new I had too change into Liam of Frankstrut. So I herded the goats quickly.
The message today was that the Lord Staken’s aunt was coming.

I like Lord Staken, he is kind and his wife is nice too. His kids are my friends, who are Anastasia and Albert.

Anastasia and Albert told me that their aunt could tell fortunes that were really true.

I hope that she could tell mine!

September 2nd

Today, I had to herd and help Uncle Eragon cook for Spring lunch, at our house. With lots of food; chicken, fish, meat, corn… It was all ready tomorrow the big day is there! Yippee… I can’t wait to play games.

September 3rd

Today was the Spring lunch. It was wonderful, we played and ate. We chased each other, told stories and jokes.

Uncle Eragon had a fun time talking with men. He is quite young, and they had archery competitions. We cheered and a great time.

September 15th

I am very sorry I haven’t been writing. You see it has been VERY busy since it is spring, and there are messages, trade and new goats to get accustomed to. O GOD! Another message. Bye got to go!

September 22nd

The same reason as the last one. Anyhow, Master Staken’s aunt told my future. That I will be adventurous, and discover amazing things that will change my life! I will also find a love.
I am ok about the amazing things, but love! Bleaacchhhh…. I AM A BOY well as Liam.

September 25th

Master Staken’s aunt was right. I did find at least one amazing thing today. I found a secret tunnel in the forest while I was collecting wood. It leads somewhere…. It urges me to go… but… I don’t think uncle will let me.September 30thI did ask uncle he said. Yes, I can! He says he did somewhat similar to what I DID when he was little. Uncle told me that he believed in magic, and that he believed Staken’s aunt. I believe in the same thing too. I think uncle is wonderful!

OCTOBER

October 1st

Hi as I was saying before about the tunnel. I went there and I found a cave with 3 more tunnels. Uncertain, I went in the 3rd tunnel. It was filled with gold. The 2nd tunnel was with hurt animals and the 1st was a huge world. I mean there was an underground world. I scurried out of the tunnels and ran back home.

But on my way home I found a stone. I liked it, it was blueish green. But then It struck me, it perhaps might drag evil, so I left it.

I told my discoveries to Uncle. He looked at me and said nothing.
Was he mad?

And then said he would tell me a story tomorrow.

October 2nd

The story started in the morning, until night. Luckily I didn’t have to go. Uncle started like this.

“Corny, long, long ago. When your parents met, they found the path you took and found a dragon. The place you went to is called Lealstrut. They were investigating a hideout, and found the three tunnels. That rock you saw was a dragon egg. You couldn’t have entered the tunnel if you weren’t the princess there.”
“I..III….I AM A PRINCESS!!!!!!”
“Hush, child. And Staken’s aunt is actually a witch and friend to your parents and me. She knows you are a princess.”
“Is that bad?”
“No…But if Lord Power finds out it will be trouble.”
“Why?”
“Because, he will use it against the nation, and king and will have absolute power!
“Ok…But what else is there…?”
“That I will tell you another day. Anyhow day after tomorrow is your birthday so we need to cook tomorrow. So go to sleep.”

I was curious about my parents and dragons. I wondered will it mean I will learn magic? I was so puzzled and tired I dropped off to sleep.

October 3rd

Today I had to help uncle. He didn’t say anything about the egg.

October 5th

Today I woke up with uncle, the goats around me and giving me gifts. A peculiar locket from uncle and a kiss from the goats. I was running around helping and getting gifts from people. And having and excellent lunch But that was it. I didn’t really enjoy it, because I was wondering about the locket and egg.

October 17th

Sorry I haven’t been writing. I have been distracted. But anyhow nothing is new.

October 30th

Boredom shadows over me. It is raining and I can’t do anything.

NOVEMBER

November 1st

Uncle told me that if I find the egg and take my locket to Lealstrut then I can open happiness again. And evil will not befall. So I set out with food and materials today. Got to go.

November 8th

I have made it to Lealstrut. A few days ago but I can’t find the place uncle told direction me to go to. Anyhow I like it here. Wait I think I can ask someone.

November 12th

I discovered the necklace gives me powers and I can talk in the tongue here. Which is good. I only have a problem. I am lost. Help!

November 30th

I finally found the key place. When I put the key in………….

DECEMBER

December 1st

…a door opened. It was A CASTLE! A HUGE ONE TOO! Then I saw people looking at me with mouth open. I was scared. Would they attack me? What would I do? Run away?

When I tried, it was embarrassing! I fell in mud. People scurried to me and helped me. For an instance I looked at man. And I realized, IT WAS UNCLE ERAGON. I ran to him and he picked me up and twirled me around. After being dizzy and giddy. I asked him is this the place?

“Yes, Corny this is the place.”

“But how did you get here faster than I did, what is going on-?”Uncle Eragon put his fingers on my lips and said.

All will be soon answered. Now, we need to get you some clothes.”
“aaa..ok”

I then was led to a big room, with my picture, and 3 others. Which I fail to recognize.

December 20th

I can’t believe it! I am princess, this is my reign, and I am very sorry I haven’t been writing.

You see I only woke up morn and realized I haven’t been writing, but only looking around. I saw that Uncle has been very quiet and watching we and smiling. What is going on?

I think Uncle Eragon is hiding something… But what!!

December 25th

Today I met the whole village and my egg was brought. It cracked… crack…crack. And a head popped out. Everyone was delighted. Well, I was kind of. I was scared.. Because I had to take care of it and what if I have an errand and the dragon does something. Uh-oh, there is going to be a problem.

They asked me to name the dragon… So I am thinking…

JANUARY

January 1st

Today was New Year’s Day! I also forgot about Christmas. But that wasn’t important. Anyhow I thought of a name for my dragon. She is greenshish, blue so I named her Emerald. She is very cute. She is about the size of a babe.

She had her first walk to me in a day. She nuzzles her head into my chest.

Though what I do wonder is where her parents are. I asked uncle, and he told me they died with my parents and I was destined to have Em.

He knows a lot about dragons.

What I read and write now is about Emerald. New Year’s is going to be great. I think. I have fantastic clothes.

January 5th

I decided to explore the castle with Emerald. We found an attic with portraits, and toys and clothes. Then it wrote Lady Lia with newborn Cornelia of Leal and Lord Leal.

I dropped it and stared. And I whispered to Em

“Those are my parents and me!”

“I look so much like my father. And it’s says in this little notebook, under observations:

Princess Cornelia is the light of this palace. She looks like the king but acts as generous like her mother.”
“Em, look here there is a portrait of our parents together.”

A tear trickled down Em’s and my face.

“It’s ok Em. At least I know I can tell you anything. Let’s share our pain together.”

I touched Emerald and she glowed. Then in my head I heard
“Let us CoorNy”
“I can speak with you?”
“Yess… we eat.. I hungrwy.”
“Ok..I will get your food Em.”

January 25th

Sorry I haven’t been writing. Em is sorry too. We have been exploring the castle and we have also been learning magic. Since we told Uncle.. You know… I think Uncle always disappears somewhere. I don’t where but Em and I will find out. Right Em? She roars.

FEBRUARY

February 1st

Em and I found out! We followed Uncle for a week. He has a dragon too!! Her name is Saphire. She is blue. She knows about us but Uncle doesn’t. She promised she wouldn’t tell in some language I didn’t know.

February 7th

I realized, I had forgotten about work. I ran with Em to Uncle he said calm down. He told me that I could go, and also herd the goats. But I HAVE TO LEAVE EMERALD HERE.

I said ok.. I knew that everybody would be in danger. Though Em is mad so she bit me. I am mad at her I will write no more.

February 15th

I have been in Staken’s manor working, and …. But I have a feeling I have forgetting something. What?

I also got notice about gossip in the village about 2 girls named Emiline an Arabelle, looking for a boy to marry.

I also hear something about people getting ill in a big area. I am worried.

February 19th

Today is my mother’s birthday. So I had to rush to the palace. Em, jumped on me and everyone hugged me. I had to try and fitin my mother’s clothes, well, almost. We had a feast and I gave presents to everyone. I felt happy. I met Saphire and Uncle. He was smiling.Em was dancing and showed me tricks she learnt.

I am (yawn) very sleepy…

MARCH

March 5th

I realized today was Uncle’s birthday. I showered him with new weapons, some clothes and a whole show by me and Em. With the new spells and tricks we learnt. I will write my favorite spell:

” Make me fly way up high and control water from above.”

That can make me fly and control water. You know it has become my element and so has earth. It is so fun. I can make plants grow where I walk, and the palace is alive!

March 19th

Uh. As a princess of a dragon I have training of all sorts. To fight, lead, deal with magic.. So I am very tired. What I am going to do is make myself something to eat. Em says bye, so do I!

March 25th

I was thinking to have a journey. I forgot to tell you about me and Liam. You see I found this passage that takes me directly to Staken’s manor, quick. I know when he calls for me because his aunt casted a spell for an underground bell. Hummm.. better give her something. I know that mushroom dish she loves.

And Uncle keeps up with the goats by staying up. I crave to go up. Maybe I can master a clone spell and make it stay here for a few days. Humm.. I am going to research.

March 29th

APRIL

April 1st

Today is a good day! Today is April Fool’s! Boy, everybody is fooling everybody! But I made it clear yesterday; it is legal to do jokes, but not a serious prank. Where somebody gets ‘lost’, so that we don’t get worried. And about political things. So all is well.

Anyhow I found the cloning spell:

“The copy of me must stay until I who cast thy spell say no more. I have complete obedience of the clone!”

So I just have to copy me tomorrow and tadda I am ok. The only problem is that Em wants to come. I said no, because if I put a disguise spell on her they wear off. And I heard Lord Power has some magicians, and they are looking for things. So what if they catch Em.

April 2nd

Plan is working perfectly except Em is mad at me.

April 5th

Aaaa… being up is so good. I had a lot of messages, and the goats I played with.

April 12th

something is wrong I saw a tail that had spikes and it was blueish green. Nay, it couldn’t be Em, could it?

I hear something… Scratching…AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

It was Em. She followed me!

April 15th

I put Em back in Lealstrut. Thank goodness.
Well, I saw something weird! I saw a fairy, her name was Luna and she told me I could change into a fairy too.”I transform, into a being unlike me on the outside, but I am like them inside, Let me fly!”

Whee, now I can transform into a fairy.

April 22nd

I returned to the palace a few days ago. Phew.. the cloning spell is good. Em is happy.. No news.

MAY

May 1st

I went up again but I found something strange. There were soldiers everywhere. They were asking about the egg, even though it was hatched.

I thought luckily they don’t know about that.

I had transformed into a fairy and using earth I could hear everything. They want the dragon. Is this the end?

May 22nd

I told Uncle about the news. It was an immediate council. The palace isn’t very merry. We need to do something.

May 25th

My magic classes are being harder and harder and Em is learning various things too. We may have to attack. But I have devised a plan.

First we have to lure them to the sea. So I will cast an illusion of a person saying that he saw them heading to the sea. We will confuse the army and sink them.

The palace is thinking. I don’t know what will happen. If Lord Power gets his hands on Em and Em is changed to evil by magicians. We will be doomed!

JUNE

June 1st

In the morn the council accepted my offer. We are going to stick to my plan. The palace is well protected will spells, and army. The council and people are proud of me!

Uncle is worried I am going to hurt myself. Though my power is getting better and better.

Em can talk better. Right Em! She says right!

Ok. Message for Lord Staken.

June 5th

We have been preparing for the attack. I am not going to talk about that.

Anyhow Em and I went to the attic again. Just to see if we can find anything to help me.

We found an old book with spells. We can’t read them. The spells I learnt are glowing. What does it means?

June 8th

I was up, and heard rebels and lords are against Lord Power. Will this help me?

The plan worked. The army is sunk! But we wonder if Lord Power will notice. I think he is busy with wars he might die!

June 10th

I met with Saphire today! I showed her the book. She said that it was a present from Uncle when I was a baby.

There is sickness where the villagers are very sick. It is spreading. I want to help.

I will transform into a fairy and cure everyone with this spell:

“Black as you are deadly as you will be, go away and never be!”

June 22nd

I casted the spell last night. Uncle was happy about me. Thank goodness nobody noticed!

June 25th

I am going to play!

JULY

July 1st

I went as Liam of Franstrut today and Anastasia said she loves me! I noticed she had been watching me! What do I do? I can’t tell my identity, or can I? And as Corny, Anastasia is my friend! Deus!

July 5th

I noticed that she has been following me. I had to do an illusion spell so I could enter the palace.

Magic lessons are harder and harder. Em and I have been practicing magic and fight together. I am pretty good at it. At magic!

Since Lord Power didn’t notice the lost army, we are safe.

July 7th

The townsfolk are happy that there is no sickness.The goats are fine so is everything else.

I realized that when I came the palace was gloomy. Now it is joyful! Colors have spread across.

July 15th

Uh-Oh, ever since Anastasia had been following me…she well, is suspicious about Cornelia and Liam disappearing at the same time.

Mayhap it will be bad! I am forced to cast a spell on her.

July 20th

it worked! Now she is normal without any suspicion.

AUGUST

August 1st

I found out something strange today! A girl had a circle with fire drawn necklace, and I had the peculiar necklace Uncle gave me.

It is a flower with three circles around it. I am curious. Her name is Carole Terrasse. She is from
France. She is nice.

I tell Uncle about her, he faints. I am WORRIED! So is Em. Em says she is very worried, and she just flew in the air to show off.

August 5th

It has been 4 days since Uncle fainted. He has recovered and told me I must show the girl here. I am shocked! Why?

Em is pondering too.)

August 10th

I found out why! Carole has a dragon. She is reddish, yellowish and her name is Ember!

I was going to ask Carole when she was there with Ember, and SHE KNOWS MAGIC TOO!

I am shocked, I mean 3 dragons alive.

Anyway I found out we are SISTERS! And Ember is Em’s sister!

I can’t believe it! I have a sister. She came with me anyway because Ember told her to.

August 15th

All is explained. We were separated by birth when mother and father died.

Uncle took me and Grandmma took Carole. I have made a nickname for her it’s Cinnamon or Cinny. She calls me Cornelia or Corny.

We are good friends and we are learning magic together. The palace is better then ever. She has the elements fire and air, and I have water and earth!

August 20th

We had a feast today a celebration for the family reunion and the fact that we have 3 dragons on our side related. Saphire is Em and Ember’s aunt!

August 29th

I am tired, so is Cinny, Ember and Em! We had harsh training. Today I met Grandmamma I felt so happy and so was Cinny when she met Uncle.

I remember Lord Staken’s aunt telling love. But I think it is true. I met a handsome, smart man in the fair today in town. He is new; I hope to meet him again.

SEPTEMBER

September 1st

I feel so bad!! Today in magic class I was doing a spell and it was a lifting one. Then Cinny, distracting me causing ink to spill on her new white dress. She is very mad at me. I then was trying to get the dress so I could clean it while she was changing and now she thinks I was trying to steal it! Deus! What can I do?
